Anambra House admits five new members

Five new legislators in the Anambra State House of Assembly were yesterday sworn in by the Speaker, Princess Chinwe Nwaebili.
They are Mr. John Olibie representing Dunukofia, Mr. Paulinus Onyeka representing Ekwusigo, Mrs. Lilian Okadigbo representing Oyi, Mrs. Rebecca Udoji representing Awka North and Mr. Chris Obinna representing Anambra East.
The swearing in was put off following intra-party matters in the court.
Speaker Nwaebili congratulated the lawmakers and reminded them of the need to work harmoniously with other members to ensure quality representation at the Assembly.
On March 9, Justice A. Abdul Kafarati of the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, ordered that they be sworn in.
He also ruled that the “grant of leave shall operate as a stay” as prayed in Paragraph 2 of the motion exparte granted by Justice Olotu of the Federal High Court on June 9, 2011.
Justice Kafarati ruled that other pending applications have been overtaken by events and struck them out.
Speaking shortly after the swearing-in, Olibie and Onyeka, who joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), promised to contribute to the development of the state and declared their support for the Governor Peter Obi administration.
Mrs. Udoji, Mrs. Okadigbo and Obinna thanked Obi and the Speaker for making the day a reality.
