CAN Responds to Jubril Aminu’s Call For the Banning of Christian Association of Nigeria
By Rev. Yunusa Nmadu Jnr. Secretary, Kaduna State Chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Professor Jibril Aminu: By Their Fruits You Shall Know Them Gentlemen of the press, and other members of CAN present here, I greet you all in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Ordinarily, we will not have spoken, preferring to believe that Professor Jibril Aminu was quoted out of context going by the reports being carried in the media credited to him, in which he called for the proscription of Christian Association of Nigeria CAN as a Christian umbrella association.
By not countering or issuing a rebuttal, he has clearly shown that he indeed said so. Jubril Aminu has finally given word to his long term anti-Christian hidden agenda, and also his outright hatred of Christians and our faith, and also all that concerned us. Let us explain. We received the invitation to the Peace and Unity Conference of the Arewa Consultative Forum, with expectation that we will contribute in finding solutions to the problems bedeviling the North and also the lingering ethno-religious crises rocking the region, but on getting there, we received the greatest shock when Jibril Aminu, who was born in 1939, in his presentation ended up denigrating Christians, insulting and casting aspersion on Christians as trouble makers, and those responsible for the woes facing Nigeria whose umbrella organization Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) ought to be proscribed.
He went further and threatened that if his call for the proscription of CAN is not effected a new group like Muslim Association of Nigeria (MAN) he propounded will emerge. While still at the conference and on realizing that he has abused the sensibilities of Christians, he shamelessly advocated for peace and harmonious relationship between Muslims and Christians, but then the cat has already been let out of the bag and he has clearly showed and proved that he is an Anti-Christ and a bigot who speaks in a manner unbecoming of reasonable and elderly statesman.
He has also proved to Christians that the Peace Conference was just conceived, as a mere talk shop and a gathering for abusing our religion (Christianity) and calling for our gradual extinction as Christians believing in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He is not in position in any way to suggest that Christians are the trouble makers in Nigeria.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:16 that “by their fruits you shall know them”. Nigerians know where the violence in Northern Nigeria is coming from and it is certainly not from those who follow the Prince of peace.

[“The objectives of CAN are very clear. I don’t see how the objectives of CAN have affected adversely inflicted on his personal fundamental rights. Who will disband CAN? Who will dissolve CAN and what will be the reason for such a disolution?
“We have co-existed in the country, has any Christian called for the dissolution of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs of Nigeria, SCIAN? Why are people just fanning the embers of disunity and come to think of it, he is one of those making laws for the development of the country,” Osu lamented.]
The problem in Nigeria keeps recurring even from those you expect (perceive will) know what is to be done in the country to guard against recalcitrant behaviours! Think of this provocative statement from Jibril; you see, that is why in my comments if you are familiar with some of them, I do stress the need for understanding and in particular that ‘orientation’ for Nigerians big and small and until we have this worked out in the country we may yet remain on that high wire! Jibril Aminu knows about the highly taunted ‘common supplications’ for all the religious bodies in Nigeria and am sure he was one of those who were present at the venue for the proposal at the time of IBB/Abacha! I wonder hearing from this utterance whether persons like him could really be referred to as Nigerian statesman in the true sense of the honour, folks! Here is a man with the kind of profession he says he belongs to, appears not to be in full appreciation of what CAN is doing or has done for Nigeria! We recall that CAN was foremost in concerns and took active part in the prayers for Yar’ Adua at the time of his health predicament! Besides, CAN has been doing so (praying for Nigeria) as far back as the late Sultan of Sokoto’s era as the has rightly pointed out by His Eminence Sunday Mbang, only to hear this man – he says he is a Professor, cannot weigh what he wants to say to the hearing of the less informed Nigerians particularly at this time the nation is faced with problem of ‘redoubtables’in the North! It shows clearly how you are not all thinking about how to solve the problems in that country, tell you the truth!
I wondered already whoever is advising in Nigeria, these so called leaders need proper orientation such that as they are seen acting in a manner not germane (conducive) to the goals anticipated for Nigeria, sanctions need to be meted against such defaulters by action or in this case through statements detrimental – the kind of thing you find they do in China and the Soviet Russia! Once you are not doing what you are supposed to be doing (embarrassing) for the interest of the nation, you are picked up for a proper sanctioning! In Nigeria they go about and attend meetings with you leaving the that they are with you, only to discover that they were in such meetings just to spy and collect information so as to work against you! End of the meeting they will claim they were there for the interest of everybody – na lie! Just fancy this – a Professor he probably has been to present the communiqué of the NPLF to the President and he had this dangerous thinking in his mind!
I said it and early enough, to consider my solution for the leadership of Nigeria as already, in that same Arewa ‘august’ meeting they have discussed the political situation for 2015 and you may well accept figure out that Jibril’s outburst is geared towards the probabilities for that year! Usually they start with the scheming before you know what it is about! By so doing, the message is usually passed to their members – we are not told whether Alhaji Ceroma, Dr. Yorchia and Sen. Waku were present at the meeting; you can recall what the utterances of these were before the 2011 elections! I cannot emphasise this more than to remind you – to consider the solution already handed in to your leaders even for that 2015 and then agree before hand before you run into a much bigger problem by that date – 2015, so that you know where you will belong at the date!
You may agree with me that here is a man presumed to be very educated and so knows that he was in the seminar to discuss social and economic problems afflicting his section of the country and possibly find ways (how) to curtail the effects on his people, yet he had the temerity to come (spring) up with this kind of ‘clangour’! Leaves you with the conviction that not all of them including the very educated are decided/ dedicated yet in what we are looking for the country – Nigeria! Through this kind of utterances and deportments after such meeting they send signals to their followers/members as if you are serving two GODs in Nigeria!
Look at it this way Vincent ! Let us go back to the Drawing Board, understand it and correct what was perpetuated long ago!!???-IF POSSIBLE. Historian, believe in studying the pass and observe the present and you can predict tomorrow and get prepare for it. Usman Danfodio started his “Jihad” and made his cohort rulers in the Hausa areas. Lord Lugard supported these cohorts to control the Hausas and others with a system –DIVIDE AND RULE- by seductions’ and impositions according to History. These eventually gave birth to 1976 in which one Alhaji Ibn Mamman Dan-Bauchi was elected the co-coordinator of an ISLAMIC ORGANIZATION-[Jamatul Nasirl Islam in the same year 1976] with an Agenda “Jihad” in and for the Northern States to start from … to Plateau state in Nigeria–from Education… to Religion. Today, as the international World observed then from 1978, our educational set up is in a mess {if you will remmeber he Jibril was one time the Minister 0f EDUCATION] and presently with high religion in-tolerance and chaos everywhere in the NORTH.
