Jonathan Addresses Nigerians, Cuts Salaries and Overseas Trips

Mr. President has come out boldly to fulfill his promise that he would not ask Nigerians to sacrifice without also making a sacrifice. He has ordered that all overseas trips by any political appointees including himself will be reduced to the barest minimum and will only be guided by necessity.

He has also directed an immediate 25% cut in the salaries of all political appointees as well as an immediate and ongoing effort to reduce government’s recurrent expenditure by streamlining MDAs with duplicate functions.

He also revealed that effective immediately there will be a Public Works Programme which will engage 10,000 youths in every state. He gave his words that with the deregulation policy Nigeria will in the not so distant future achieve self sufficiency in domestic refining capacity with all its attendant benefits.

Mr. President has sincerely asked Nigerians to be patient as gratification is being delayed to invest more in our future growth than in our present consumption in order to leave behind a Nigeria that we all and our children can be proud of.
