Roll Deep Release New Mixtape – ‘No Comment Star’

Roll Deep G-Shock

Arguably the biggest grime group to ever come out of the home of the grime (the UK) are back with a brand new mixtape and they launched it at the G-Shock East flagship store in East London, the home of the tough Casio watches.

The boys picked the venue because it is based on Brick Lane in the heart of London’s East End which is where the members of the group are from. So with a venue close to their heart and with a line up of great British acts under them the night was bound to be a big hit for lovers of underground Brit music.

The new mixtape ‘No Comment Star’ has a darker sound than many of the more mainstream Roll Deep fans would expect, making it truer to the roots of their grime background and away from the dance inspired tracks that bought them mainstream success from their last record ‘Winner Stays On’ which featured the huge hits ‘Good Times’, ‘Green Light’ and ‘Take Control’ which featured Alesha Dixon.

Although many of the fans of the more mainstream hits that Roll Deep have had may be put off by this new darker sound, they are sure to win their old fans back over with this mixtape, they can also expect to gain some new fans, especially from those who love their dubstep, as some of the bass and beats from the tracks ‘Wilehouse Crew’ and ‘Oh Lord’ in particular are deep, low and heavy.

It may not be the triumphant return to the charts that some more fair weather Roll Deep fans were expecting, but for those who loved them from the ‘Shake a Leg’ days back in 2005, this will be a welcomed return to what they do best, making classic dirty grime.
