Anderlecht coach Ariel Jacobs: AZ are more than a formidable opponent

Anderlecht coach Ariel Jacobs has warned that his side face a difficult challenge on Thursday when they lock horns with Eredivisie outfit AZ in the Europa League.

The 58-year-old feels his side cannot afford to underestimate the Dutch team as he believes Gertjan Verbeek has a good squad at his disposal and have the potential to cause an upset in their round of 32 tie.

“When you’re drawn from the same pot as the Manchester teams, and you’re eventually paired with a team like AZ, everybody expects a walk-over,” Jacobs told the club’s official website.

“But it is not so easy. If you follow Dutch football, you will know that AZ are a good team and that they are top of the Eredivisie. Their team is as good as ours. No, AZ are a more than a formidable opponent.”

The first leg kicks-off in Alkmaar at 19.00 CET on Thursday night.
