Jubril Aminu Needs Prayers! – Sunday Mbang Christians around the country have reacted to the call by former petroeum minister, Jubril Aminu, for the proscription of CAN.
It may be recalled the Professor Jubril Aminu had in Kaduna during the Northern Peace Conference called for the proscription of CAN alleging that institutions like CAN fan the embers of dischord and promote violence. But in his reaction, former President of CAN and ex-Prelate of the Methodist church, His Eminence Sunday Mbang said Aminu might need to see a psychiatrist because the people that cause religious violence in the North are not Muslims but a Northern elements of the same caliber as Professor Aminu.
Speaking further, Mbang said; “Does that man know how CAN came about? Where was he when well meaning Muslims like the late Sultan of Sokoto was collaborating with the Christian body to find pathways to all the crises in that region? I worked with the late Sultan and together we achieved so much in the overall interest of the nation. “If the man is calling for the dissolution of CAN then he needs to see a psychiatrist. I think he needs a lot of prayers and I will not hesitate to call on fellow Christians and Muslims in the country to pray fervently for him because it is obvious he needs a whole load of prayers.”
Also speaking, Director of Social Communications of the Catholic Arch Diocese of Lagos, Rev. Monsignor Gabriel Osu said it was a shame that a man of Aminu’s stature could descend so low. Said Osu; “It is unfortunate that a man of that high calibre could be associated with such a call. I am ashamed. I read that story and my first reaction was; where are we going in this country when a man of that stature can descend so low to make such divisive statement at a time we are all clamouring for the unity of this nation. “The objectives of CAN are very clear. I don’t see how the objectives of CAN have affected adversely inflicted on his personal fundamental rights.
