Nigerian President Goodluck to Visit the Moon on Historic Journey
Abuja – Plans have been concluded to send the Nigerian President, Mr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, on a historic flight to the moon.
President Jonathan will be the first sitting President to visit the moon and probably the first President in space.
According to a presidential spokesperson, the mission will establish Nigeria as one of the super-powers of the world.
Reactions to the planned space travel have been mixed. While some experts have noted that there is nothing of economic importance on the moon, ordinary Nigerians have decried the mission calling it a flagrant waste of resources and ill-timed at best – considering the crisis currently plaguing the nation.
Reacting to this, the Nigerian minister of Information, Labrat Maku, declared that the President can rule from anywhere in the Universe.
A Russian Buran space shuttle with a payload to orbit specification of 3,810kg (53,600 lb) has been acquired for the mission. The spacecraft would be painted in the colours of the Nigerian flag and be known as Space-Force 1 while conveying the President.
It is not yet known whether the first lady would accompany her husband on this ground breaking journey.
